Diamond

Diamond is the best known gem. It is known as the “king of gems” for its brilliance and for being the hardest mineral on earth. (Foa, p.50) Its characteristics enable it to be used for many different purposes. Since diamonds are the hardest gems on Mohs’ scale, they make useful tools for industrial purposes, such as drilling hard materials. However, they are quite rare, which makes them very valuable. Their beauty and brilliance make them perfect for jewelry. Diamond is made up of carbon. Another form of pure carbon is graphite. Graphite is the stable form of carbon, found at the earth’s surface. Despite the fact that they have identical chemical composition, the two minerals are drastically different. Diamond is the …show more content…

(Fisher, p.52) Some rough diamond crystals contain a combination of these forms. This is an especially common occurrence in Brazil, where diamonds are sometimes found in which many tiny crystals are tightly packed together. These kinds of diamonds, which grow in bunches are called carbonados. (Fisher, p.52) Carbonados are usually used in industry. Diamonds are very important in industry because they are used for the manufacture and use of various precision instruments. These instruments are employed in grinding and polishing glass, polishing ceramics, stones, etc. Diamond drill crowns are used in the oil mining industry to drill through the earth to the oil.

There are many different legends and beliefs associated with diamonds. For example, the Hindus believed that a flawed diamond would bring misfortune, while the Greeks thought that diamonds could protect against poison. (Foa, p.50)

The value of a diamond depends on four primary factors. These are (1) color, (2) clarity, (3) cut, and (4) carat weight. A diamond cutter or jeweler determines the color of a diamond by comparing it visually with "knowns," or

How Diamonds Are Affected By The Rock Cycle

With the fact the Diamonds are made by the rock cycle then it affects where we can find them. We can see this from the fact that certain areas in the world have certain attributes that let diamonds be able to form. Crain found that diamonds may be spat out in the volcanic smoke that is released during an eruption. We can find them with the gravel that came out as well with the volcanic

The Dee Beers Story

Diamond is one of the most expensive gemstones. It is rare and it has difficult ways to extract. Diamond has been discoverd from thousands of years, it is the result of exposure carbon to heat under the ground over onethousand and fourhandred dgrees, and this is how diamonds are shaped. In this essay I will write , explain and compare between the four article about purpose and audence.

5star Tools Case Study

Five Star Tools is a small family-owned business that manufactures diamond-coated cutting tools (chisels and saws) used by jewelers. The production of these tools involves three major processes. The first of these processes involves steel “blanks” (tools without the diamond coating) that are cut to size. The second process involves the blanks being sent to a chemical bath that prepares the tools for the coating process. The final process is the major process in the line. The blanks are coated with diamond chips in a proprietary process that simultaneously coats and sharpens

The Diamond Of The Rough Saying Has Been Used Around The World For Many Decades

The diamond in the rough saying has been used around the world for many decades. This saying is used to explain the beautiful struggle an individual had to go through to overcome adversity and potentially transform into a beautiful, resilient being. What about the individuals who face adversity on a consistent basis? According to Dr. Andrew Snelling, “Diamonds may get all the attention, but rubies and sapphires are the first choice of kings and the affluent because of their extreme rarity. Only special conditions, initiated by the Flood, could have produced these rare beauties (2010).” Sapphires emerge from the mineral called corundum, which is the
